Orajel 3X Mouth Sores Gel: Key Ingredients and Formula
The formula contains three active ingredients that serve different purposes in temporary oral pain relief and protection. Understanding these ingredients helps explain how Benzocaine 20% Oral Gel works. The current U.S. drug-label listing for this Orajel 3X formula also identifies these three active ingredients; consult the official DailyMed drug label for label-specific directions and warnings.
1. Benzocaine 20%
Benzocaine is a local anesthetic used to temporarily relieve pain. In Orajel 3X, it is present at a concentration of 20% and works by temporarily numbing the affected area. It is the primary oral pain-relieving ingredient in this medicated gel.
2. Menthol 0.1%
Menthol provides a soothing sensation to irritated and sore areas of the mouth and gums. It complements Benzocaine in the formula and contributes to the product’s soothing oral care benefits.
3. Zinc Chloride 0.15%
Zinc Chloride functions as an oral astringent. It helps protect mouth sores from irritation and supports the protective function of this three-ingredient formula.
Other Ingredients
The formula also contains Allantoin, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA, Flavor, Polyethylene Glycol, Polysorbate 60, Propylene Glycol, PVP, Sodium Saccharin, Sorbic Acid, Stearyl Alcohol and Water.
A Three-Active-Ingredient Formula
The combination of Benzocaine, Menthol and Zinc Chloride gives Orajel 3X its oral pain-relieving and astringent properties. These ingredients work together to provide temporary pain relief and help protect irritated mouth sores.
